My name is Kate Siakpere (@MissShakespeare).  No, I'm not a long lost relative to William Shakespeare, nor an avid fan of theater, I was just blessed with a Nigerian-Igbo surname that is difficult to pronounce.

When I was 9 years old, I fell in love with media.  The trigger, Britney Spears's "Oops I Did It Again" music video.  I loved the Mars narrative, her iconic red leather costume, the hunk who surprised her with the necklace that "that old lady from the Titanic threw it in the ocean."  It wasn't Britney I was enamoured by, but by Nigel Dick, the music director of many top music videos on TRL style and creative storytelling.

I grew up in a big-small town in western Wisconsin, Eau Claire. Most of my time in highschool was spent in escapist activities e.g. Show Choir and learning Spanish in Spain.  After graduation, I kissed the US goodbye and worked as a waitress learning Spanish in a small port city, Sanxenxo, Spain  to learn more about the country and culture, independently.    After two years of college at Lawrence University, I fell into a minor twenties mid life crisis and realized that a language teacher wasn't in my career trajectory and I had to follow what felt natural to me, media.

After graduating from Lawrence University with a B.A. in Film Studies and Spanish, I moved to Austin to take advantage of the blooming film industry.  Currently I work on as production assistant on national commercials produced in the area.  I use the experience learned to perfect my craft creating content and growing as a filmmaker.
